My best artwork this semester was my identity artwork. I think this is my best one because It looks really neat and it actually means something to me. The other ones I just made a random thing but this one actually has meanings behind it. The artwork that I would like to redo is my clay sculpture. I would like to redo that one because it was not very neat. It doesn't sit stable and I couldn't get a tail attached to it. The thing I learned in this class is that something you don't really like to do can be fun if you put in effort and try to make it interesting. The thing that I wish we could have done in this class is make a sculpture of random objects that are important to us. I think that would have been fun to put together.

The artwork I made is a sculpture of a K. It is about a foot tall, 10 inches wide, and 2 inches thick. It is painted blue with some lighter spots and some darker spots. There are 9 things painted on the front of it. Going down the left side, it is a football, a golf club, a boat, a heart, and a baseball bat. On the upper right it is a baseball and a hockey stick below that. On the lower right it is a basketball on the bottom with a fire above that. I made my artwork by constructing the K first. I made a sketch of the size and shape of the K that I wanted. Then I cut out two cardboard K's to use for the front and back. Then I glued paper cups in between the two K's to make it stable. After that, I used paper tape and covered the whole thing in it, making all the sides flat. Then I covered it in gesso. Finally, I painted the K blue and painted the items on top of it. The idea behind this artwork is to represent me. The K stands for my name, and I painted it blue because it is my favorite color. I tried to make the blue look like water to show that I love to be at the lake. The basketball, baseball, and football are on there to show that I play those sports and enjoy sports. The baseball bat shows that baseball is my favorite sport. The boat shows that I like to go fishing. The golf club represents my family because we go golfing together a lot. The hockey stick represents my friends because I love playing hockey with them. The fire represents my cousins because I go camping with them a lot. The heart represents that I am nice and caring to everybody. My goals for this artwork were to put a lot of things on here that represented something important to me. I think this artwork turned out really good because it expresses me very well. I put my favorite things on here and things that are really important to me. The two studio habits of mind I am using are express and develop craft. I am using express because I will put different things on my letter to represent the things that are important to me. I am using develop craft because I learned how to use paper tape in a much easier way than I did before this project. I figured out how to make it look a lot better by the end too. The things I am sharing about my identity are the sports I play, fishing, and four different objects to represent my family, friends, cousins, and girlfriend. My plan is still the same from before. I am proud of how neat I got the paper tape to look at the end. The thing I need to work on is getting the pictures to look good on my letter.
For my final artwork, I am making a big letter with a lot of pictures on it. The pictures will be symbols of what is important to me. I am going to put my sports and a boat on there and a symbol for my friends, family, cousins, and girlfriend. One of the studio habits of mind that I am going to use is express because each symbol on the letter will represent a different thing. I am also going to have to use develop craft because I am not sure how to make the letter yet.
My artwork is a very tall and skinny figure standing on a platform. It is black and gold. It is in a superman pose, and the left arm is flexing. I made my artwork by starting with 7 pieces of metal wire. One was 36", one was 24", one was 15", and four were 3". I bent the 36" piece into the shape of the body and legs. Then I put the 15" wire on the shoulders for the head. Then I put the 24" wire on as the arms, and finally I put one 3" wire for each foot and two for the hips. then I put tinfoil on the styrofoam base, stuck my figure in there, and covered that with tinfoil too. Then I used mod podge to cover it in paper towels. After that I painted it all black, and finally put a gold finish on it using the dry brush technique. My figure is standing in a superman pose to represent winning, because I love to win. My goal for this artwork was to try to make it look very similar to the sculptures that Giacometti made. I thought it turned out great. The only thing that I should have done differently was make the torso a little skinnier. I chose to do the pinch pot for my project. I started by making a normal pinch pot, then I turned it into a pig. I made the head first and attached that. Then I added the legs, and finally put the snout, eyes, and ears onto the head. Attaching the different parts was very hard. Then I got the pot bisque fired. When that was done I started to glaze. First I did the whole thing pink-a-dot. Then when that was dry I made the feet and eyes shiny black, and the ears hot tamale. Then I got it fired one more time to get the glaze finished. One of the studio habits of mind that I used was envision because I had the sketch in my sketchbook before I started. The other one that I used was develop craft because I learned how to make a pot out of clay and I have never made anything with clay before. My plan is to make a tall figure that has its hands up like a ref does in a football game. My inspiration is Giacometti because I want my figure to look like one of his. The studio habits of mind im using are understand art worlds because I'm making a Giacometti figure and envision because I plan on following my sketch for this artwork.
My artwork is a sculpture made out of floral foam. It is like the base of a trophy and then there are two rings stacked on top of each other facing opposite ways. It is gold with green on the inside of the rings and on the top of the base. I created this by taking a square piece of floral foam and carving it out. First I made the base the shape I wanted and made the rings after that so that it would look good. Then I painted it all gold and when that dried I put green in the inside of the rings and on part of the base. The meaning of my artwork is accuracy. The rings demonstrate accuracy because I need to have accuracy for so many things that I do. These things include football, basketball, baseball, and hunting. My goals for this artwork were to make this have a meaning without really being able to tell. I feel like I accomplished this goal because it doesn't really seem like it is supposed to be anything, but it does have a meaning. I thought this artwork turned out good because this was the first time I have ever used floral foam, and it turned out the way I wanted it to. The only thing I think could have went better is if the sizes of the rings were the same size. The two studio habits of mind that I used were develop craft and envision. I used develop craft because this was the first time I have ever used floral foam so I had to experiment what worked best on it. I used envision by creating a sketch of what I was going to make before I started to construct it. This helped me picture what I was trying to make it look like. The principle of design I focused on the most was balance. I showed this by stacking the rings on top of each other in opposite directions. The principles of design I am focusing on in this artwork are balance and emphasis. My plan is to make a sculpture with two open circles on top of each other. They represent accuracy which is needed in both hunting and baseball. I am using express because it shows the accuracy needed without really making it clear. I am also using develop craft because this is the first time that I have ever used floral foam.
